RIBBON CARDS

So, you thought that ribbon was only for wrapping pretty gifts. Well, you’re wrong!!! Ribbon cards are easy to make and the ideas are endless. Every occasion lends itself to ribbon cards because you can use the ribbon as an accent to the card as in the butterfly ribbon card or as the main theme as seen in the Christmas ribbon card.

Below are sample instructions for making ribbon cards. The choice of ribbons, cardstock and embellishments are entirely up to you. Use your imagination and your ribbon card will not only be truly inspirational but a unique handmade greeting card.

STEP #1—Choose you cardstock carefully. Make sure that the color is compatible with the ribbon. The size is up to you but I find that using a size about 5x7 when folded displays the ribbon better.

STEP #2---Decide on the placement of the ribbon. Diagonal placement lends a great accent as displayed in the sample Christmas ribbon card. This is your choice so let your imagination run wild.

STEP#3---Glue the ribbon to the cardstock. You can use just about any type of paper glue. Fabric glue and Tacky glue can also be used but it is a little difficult to handle. I prefer a gluestick because it is quick and easy to handle.

STEP #4---Choose your embellishments to be placed on the card. I used fancy pieces of paper in the butterfly ribbon card. Anything goes when it comes to adding embellishments. As long as it doesn’t walk or talk it can be used.

STEP #5---The use of words or phrases on the front of the ribbon card is up to you. Let the beauty of your creativity shine through.

Ribbons can be purchased at many different stores such as fabric stores, arts and crafts stores and stationery stores. The ideas are endless and the joy of receiving ribbon cards on a specific occasion are truly gratifying.
