Unique Envelope Ideas
How many times will the cards you are about to create not fit the standard size envelope? Will you contemplate re-doing the card to fit the envelope on hand? Frustrating isn’t it?
Well, with these easy instructions you can make your greeting cards fit your unique envelope. Now you will not have to worry about the size of your card.
TECHNIQUE #1
Open up carefully any envelope that you may have available. You will see that the center rectangle is slightly larger than the card that fits into it. Increase the height and width of the center rectangle to accommodate the greeting card and use the four flaps as a template to create your unique envelope. Adjust the flaps accordingly to along for them to overlap when folded and glued. You can trace this out on a piece of sturdy cardboard, cut around the tracing and use this template for additional unique envelopes that will fit this size card. You can continue to make templates for any unique envelope size depending upon your greeting card size and not have to worry about keeping to standard sizes.
TECHNIQUE #2
Take your finished card and place it in the center of an 8 1/2x11 piece of paper. Slowly and carefully bend up the paper around all four sides of your greeting card creating a slightly larger rectangle than the card itself. You have now created the
center of your new unique envelope. Remove the card and fold the creases sharp and straight. Cut and fold the remaining flaps into the center of the card (refer to either the template you had created in TECHNIQUE #1 or the unfolded sample envelope that you had available) . Notice where the glue is placed on the flaps of the sample envelope so when you glue your unique envelope together it will not stick to the center. Glue the flaps carefully on the side and bring the bottom flap up to make the pocket that the greeting card is going to go into. You now have a unique envelope and don’t worry if the card doesn’t fit into the pocket. If you didn’t make happy little mistakes you would not become proficient in making envelopes. Go back and increase the size of the center rectangle and this will solve your problems. Experiment with colored papers and scrapbooking papers to make your unique envelopes and both you and the recipient will be pleasantly surprised.
TECHNIQUE #3
Here is a great way to decorate the inside of your unique envelope. Have you ever received greeting cards with foil on the inside of the envelope? Well, you can create the same
look. If your greeting card was made using scrapbook paper then make the insert from the same paper. If you used colored card stock for your card then use the same color paper for the inside. Cut a template out of cardboard that will fit into your unique envelope and don’t forget that the template should begin UNDER the glue lines on the top flap. This way you will not have covered up you glue lines. Using the same paper on the insert as the greeting card will give your unique envelope both a professional and personalized look to your unique envelope. Imagine what a wonderful surprise it will be when this unique envelope is opened and let’s not forget that personalized handmade greeting card also.
